S.P.A.N. Service Providers
Adult/Advocacy Network

History

In April 1992 a letter was sent out to a number of agencies, organizations, programs and individuals providing services for adult survivors of child sexual abuse. The letter, following shortly on the publication of the BC Task Force on Family Violence, "Is Anyone Listening," aimed to bring together those interested in networking, identifying and taking action on issues pertaining to services for adult survivors. An inaugural meeting date was set for early May and approximately 30 persons attended.

Over the past year the activities of the Network have included:

  • Clarifying focus and functions
  • Holding regular meetings
  • Defining an interest/action/committee structure as well as an operating structure
  • Developing a mailing list (now approaching 100, representative of many different service providers)
  • Maintaining a basic level of Network communication through the minutes
  • Liaison with VOICES and other groups representing survivors
  • Holding a one-day planning and networking Forum (Van Dusen Gardens, October 19, 1992, 60 in attendance).
