Profile: Wendy Harvey

Wendy Harvey, the Chair of the B.C. Institute on Family Violence, is also a leading Crown Attorney in British Columbia and has been prosecuting since 1980. She has specialized in child abuse prosecution since 1981. Since that time she has been a prolific writer in her field. Her published titles include magazine articles, newsletter articles, book contributions and four books published by Butterworth's, including:

  • with Watson-Russel,"So You Have to Go to Court"

  • with Watson-Russel,"So You Have Been Busted"

  • with McGuire,"So There are Laws About Sex"

  • with Dauns,"Sexual Offenses Against Children and the Criminal Process."

Wendy Harvey has received a number of special awards, including a nomination for Woman of the Year by the YWCA and a lifelong membership to the Society for Children and Youth of British Columbia.

Ms. Harvey has been actively involved in law reform by bringing innovations to the courtroom and testifying before the Justice Committee on Bill C-15. She has provided training and lectures throughout Canada and has represented Canada internationally in Italy and Britain.

Since 1988 Ms. Harvey has been a Headquarters lawyer with the Ministry of the Attorney General and is responsible to the areas of child abuse, sexual assault and vulnerable witnesses.

She is currently Chair of the Provincial Child Witness program as well as the BCIFV.
