Family and Community Counselling Program
The Family and Community Counselling Program is a 10-1/2
month course of intensive study designed to assist Aboriginal
adults gain individual and family counselling skills leading
to employment by tribal councils and other organizations as
counsellors or community development and support workers.
The primary focus of the program is on the development of
holistic counselling skills in the area of family violence,
related personal and family crisis situations, interpersonal
communication skills and development of community wellness
models which is understood as being interwoven with a wide
range of other social issues, such as substance abuse, suicide,
assault and abuse.
The curriculum has been designed to be responsive to the
unique and changing needs of adult learners, who bring with
them a wealth of life experience and a mature readiness to
meet the challenges of this program. In addition, the courses
in the program will be adapted to the needs of students and
will incorporate a significant amount of cultural and spiritual
development.
Accreditation Certification: This program is conducted in
conjunction with Langara College. Courses for which credit
is received may be used towards a Co-ordinated diploma at
Langara campus, 30 credit hours.
